Finance operations agent
💳 Finance Operations
AI handles AP/AR at speed. Every material transaction requires your sign-off.
Finance operations agents can match invoices, initiate payments, reconcile accounts, and update financial records — autonomously. Policy Gateway applies your financial controls: below the threshold, the agent runs freely. Above it, a named finance team member approves before anything posts.
Finance agent · approval queue
Invoice match · Acme Supplies
£4,200 · within approved supplier list
Payment initiation · new vendor
£18,500 · first-time payee · exceeds £10k threshold
Wire transfer · international
£124,000 · outside approved country list
Account reconciliation · Q1
Read-only · no posting
How it works
Same controls as your existing finance policy — applied to AI.
01
Agent processes invoice / payment request
The finance agent matches an incoming invoice against POs, validates the supplier, and determines whether to proceed with payment. Before acting, it generates a ProvenanceCode artifact with the full transaction context.
02
Policy Gateway applies your financial controls
Your rules run: approved supplier + under threshold = auto-proceed. New payee or over threshold = human review. Outside approved country list = block. The same logic as your existing procurement policy — enforced deterministically.
if amount < 10000 and supplier.approved == true → auto
if amount >= 10000 → require_human
if payee.country not in approved_countries → deny
if amount >= 10000 → require_human
if payee.country not in approved_countries → deny
03
Finance team reviews material transactions
For held transactions, the finance team member sees the full context: the invoice, the matched PO, the agent's validation steps, and the risk factors. They approve or reject. Their identity is recorded.
Reviewed · named approver · timestamp sealed
04
Transaction posts · general ledger record created
Approved transactions post within the approved scope. The provenance record is sealed — the invoice data, the agent's validation, the approval identity, the timestamp, and the posted transaction are all cryptographically linked. Internal audit has a complete, queryable trail.

Why finance teams use this
AI speed. Finance controls.
High-volume routine processing automated
Invoice matching, supplier validation, and approved-amount payments run without human involvement. The agent handles the volume; your team handles the exceptions.
Fraud surface dramatically reduced
First-time payees, unusual amounts, and non-approved countries are automatically flagged or blocked before a payment is ever initiated. The policy runs before the agent can act.
SOX-aligned audit documentation
Every AI-initiated financial action produces a structured record equivalent to a journal entry. Who authorised it, what the agent validated, when the transaction posted. Internal audit has a complete trail.
Your financial controls, enforced
Your procurement approval matrix, your payment limits, your approved supplier and country lists — all of these become machine-enforced policy rules. The agent cannot bypass them.
Queryable transaction intelligence
Internal audit can ask: "how many AI-initiated payments above £10k were made last quarter, and who approved them?" The provenance trail answers immediately, with full documentation.
Insurance documentation
Cyber and financial crime insurance increasingly requires evidence of AI governance controls. The provenance record is that evidence — structured, tamper-evident, and immediately producible.
